Legacy Challenge

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is the Arkansas Children's Legacy Challenge?

Legacy giving has been and will continue to be an important part of creating a healthier tomorrow for the children of Arkansas. Arkansas Children's Legacy Challenge uses matching dollars to move our mission forward today while securing future investments via estate gifts to support a healthier tomorrow.

  2. How does the Legacy Challenge work?

During the Legacy Challenge, when you document your future estate gift to benefit Arkansas Children's, 25 percent of your future estate investment (up to $1 million) is matched right now. This current matching gift will benefit your choice of 10 strategic priorities designed to improve child health, while your future estate commitment leaves your legacy at Arkansas Children's in the years to come.

  3. What is the purpose of the Arkansas Children's Legacy Challenge?

Your philanthropic investment is vital to making Arkansas a healthier and safer place to be a child both today and tomorrow. The Arkansas Children's Legacy Challenge was created to promote this dual impact. Not only will your future estate gift advance the mission of Arkansas Children's for years to come, you will have the opportunity today to direct critical funding to areas important to you and the health system.

  4. Where do the matching dollars come from?

A combination of donor dollars and institutional resources are funding up to $5 million in matching gifts. By providing reinvestment into the growth of Arkansas Children's, these matching gifts will fuel strategic priorities aimed at delivering unprecedented child health.

  5. How do I document my future estate gift for the Arkansas Children's Legacy Challenge?

It's simple! You can return the non-binding, one page confirmation form or provide a copy of your will, trust, or other legal document. Call (800) 880-7491 to request a confirmation form or fill out the form online.

  6. How long does the Arkansas Children's Legacy Challenge last?

The Legacy Challenge will last until June 2023 or until all matching dollars are depleted.

  7. How old do I have to be to qualify for the Arkansas Children's Legacy Challenge?

Regardless of how old you are, it's never too soon or too late to think about your impact. We welcome all ages to participate; however, you must document your future estate gift to participate in the match program.

  8. What gifts qualify for the Arkansas Children's Legacy Challenge?

Generally, the following types of future estate gifts will be eligible for matching dollars: gifts by a will or living trust; beneficiary designations from a retirement account, bank account, or some other investment account; charitable gift annuities; charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts, and other forms of trusts; gifts of real property; and gifts of life insurance.

  9. If I have already documented a future estate gift with Arkansas Children's, will it qualify for the Arkansas Children's Legacy Challenge?

We are grateful for all those who have included us in their estate plans over the last century. Arkansas Children's Legacy Challenge is designed to inspire new philanthropic investments and fuel the strategies vital to improving child health. Due to limited matching dollars and the desire to promote new estate investments, the matching dollars will only be available when a new gift is documented, or the value of a previously documented estate gift is increased.

  10. If I designate my future estate gift to a fund or program not listed among the 10 strategic priorities, will my investment still be eligible for the gift match?

Yes. Your future estate gift can be designated to any Arkansas Children's area or program of your choosing, including new or previously established endowments. Only your matching gift must be directed toward one of the 10 strategic priorities.

  11. Must I document an amount of my future estate gift for Arkansas Children's Legacy Challenge?

To be eligible for matching funds, an estimated amount of your future estate gift must be documented on the gift confirmation form.

  12. What areas can I direct my matching funds to support?

To support Arkansas Children's bold five year strategic plan, immediate philanthropic investment is needed for 10 strategic priorities: Advance Patient Care; Arkansas Children's Northwest; Primary Care; First 2,100 Days of Life; Behavioral Health; Arkansas Children's Research Institute, Research Integration & Innovation; Digital Transformation; Team for the Future Talent Acquisition; Diversity, Equity & Inclusion; and CEO Strategic Initiatives Fund. Because the Arkansas Children's Legacy Challenge is designed to be a catalyst for strategic growth, we will continually monitor these strategic priorities and their philanthropic needs. If additional needs arise or if levels of funding for these areas have been met, we will partner with you to make sure your matching dollars are directed to support a strategic growth area that will most benefit the children and families we serve.

  13. What if the value of my future estate gift exceeds $5,000,000? Do I qualify for more than $1,000,000 matching funds?

Thank you for your incredible generosity. While your transformative investment will have an incredible impact on the children of Arkansas, the maximum matching funds available for a single gift is $1,000,000. The good news: This allows the remaining matching funds to inspire others to leave their legacy at Arkansas Children's
